Bio
I am an Army Brat. We moved around quite a bit when I was young, Germany, Illinois, Virginia… my family settled in Colorado when I was in high school. I received my undergraduate degree from Colorado University in Boulder, where I originally was going to study Travel and Tourism to become a travel agent. But, after almost failing Business Math 101, I decided to become an art major instead. After school, I worked as an interior designer, a store merchandiser, a carpet salesperson, a one-day stint as a telemarketer, and finally as a clerk at a kitchen supply store… and I started realizing that I probably needed to go back to school.
I was in a Boston bookstore when the graphic design “lightbulb” went off. I was noticing how cool all the book jackets were, and realized that someone had been PAID to design them. I started researching schools.
Already armed with a BFA, I decided that my best bet was to get a two-year degree in graphic design from Community College of Denver. 18 years later, I’m still there. I started in the CCD Creative Services department as an intern, and have worked my way up to running the department. My team of three is responsible for publications and graphics for the entire college… averaging more than 1200 deliverables annually. We were key players in the rebranding of the college, including developing a logo, website and first ever college mascot. I really do feel lucky at my job, to be creative every day is a blessing.
Other facts about me:
I still love to travel. Luckily my husband travels a lot for work, so we score a lot of frequent flyer miles, which allows us to afford some pretty amazing vacations. We like the challenge of traveling solo to non-touristy destinations. We almost enjoy the planning as much as taking the actual trip,
I also still love interior design. I’m constantly looking for new vintage furniture to add to my collection, and sometimes even look for new houses to move my furniture collection into.
I am the proud owner of a 6 year old mutt named Louie.
